Cashier's Settle. circa 1904.
One of Mackintosh's most recognisable pieces of furniture, this
Settle was designed for the cashier at the Willow Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall
St, Glasgow.
The stylised willow pattern on the back of the Settle not only picked
up on the name of the tea-rooms it was designed for, but also created
a screen from the cashier, thus offering the patrons of the tea-room
some privacy to enjoy their beverage.
Bruce Hamilton has produced a small number of these Settles, but
because of the fragile design and the amount of work in the construction,
this will always limit the production of this piece of furniture.
